“Belle” (2021) Is a Beauty, Not a Beast of a Film

Belle was a movie I thought would be a typical anime, meant in the good sense; anime is a lifelong interest of mine since my great aunt used to gift me little VHS tapes I couldn't understand in their original Japanese. I didn't read anything about it pre-viewing. No idea it was based on Beauty and the Beast.

It got better at the end when who I expected the Beast to be was not. The positive message in the movie for me fits my life goal of changing the world with my work. The people behind Belle are exemplary. The movie was so well played out and animated. I felt a bit old like it wasn't my demographic anymore because I am not a gamer or constantly into web chitchat of the day, and I enjoyed it anyway.

Critiquing movies is not for me. When I really loved something, you will hear about it in my diaries. I know firsthand how hard one works getting a creative work made in your vision, as I am in the process of that right now with my Peter Pan animated film. A long journey begins with baby steps.

Congratulations, Mamoru Hosoda!
