Rat Terrier Bath TIme: Isla Tries a New Eco Friendly Shampoo by VetDerm Solutions

Ew, stinky! Isla, my adult puppy born about 2007-2008 and adopted in January 2010 from Ratbone Rescues, turns somewhat beige and smelly really quickly. Pretty soon, she picks her toes all the time. Evidence.

Isla, seen before her bath. Can you smell her outdoor doggy scent through the screen?

For the past few years and exclusively since the pandemic, Isla takes home baths.

Isla gets itchy, so the product we were trying today was supposed to help with that issue. Problem number two: her fur feels like bristles when it dries out. That’s no fun. VetDerm Solutions at this moment in time has one natural living themed shampoo product out made from aloe vera and things to make your creatures soft and less itchy. Fragrance free. You can read about it more on their website. Ordering it from them is a lot easier for me because I don’t have an Amazon shopper account. For those of you who do and love your Amazon shopping sprees, the product we are reviewing is available on Amazon.

We have never gotten shampoo for fuzzy ones through the mail before. It’s OK. Maybe it is time for a change. You find better options online.

And now, what you all came to see. Cute bath time pix.

This shampoo is tear free! Isla had a nice little treatment near her forehead and around the face. The only other decent tear free shampoo we have tried before is one called Espree and that one is different than VetDerm because…

This one doesn’t have any type of smell. More on that in a bit. I know you want more cuteness.

Soon, the final look. Dry and clean!

Many products made for human and pet hair are odd. Do you really want that stuff leaking into places where animals can get to it? Think about the ducklings being cleaned off in TV commercials. This product is not harmful to the environment. Maybe I’m on a roll here because lately I have been using a scentless eco friendly laundry detergent and I have for the longest time been into organic and vegan makeup brands. I don’t think one has to be 100 percent vegan to get a value from using vegan and/or eco friendly everyday products because really, who wants some of those animal byproducts and/or strange things on your skin and face? “Ew” is a word you will use learning what technical terms on ingredient labels mean.

The scentless thing is what it sounds like. The later goes over your creature in the tub until the stinky outdoor animal scent goes away. You don’t get the explosion of a Hallmark store candle in your nose as you do with some other brands. I would love if VetDerm had a set to go with this, maybe a spritz to style her fur. She came out fairly fluffy and her colors more visible, both the darks and the lights. Hurray!

Will I buy this again? Sure. Isla came out extra special and super soft, and maybe because it’s not scented like most pet shampoos … she didn’t run away after the bath! We have experienced a few bathtub prison breaks over the years including one at Petco some years ago. Isla hates sniffing too-scented things.

Once she dries some more, the collar is going back on. Off to a good start for fall!

Bonus content: remembering Isla and her BFF, her big brother Scottie from the NYC pound, in a double dog bath.
